Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite network is on track to provide worldwide coverage of broadband internet to every part of the globe, with the exception of the poles, by August, or within the next 5 weeks.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX Internet to begin soon
Currently, Starlink delivers satellite internet to over 69,000 active consumers in 12 countries, according to the company.
Elon Musk, addressing at the Mobile World Congress conference in Barcelona on Tuesday, stated that the Starlink service is expected to have about 500,000 subscribers worldwide by 2022, according to the company.
While Musk has stated that Starlink would have worldwide coverage by August, this does not imply that every country, including India, will be able to use the service from August onwards.
Starlink has made several announcements.
On Tuesday, Elon Musk delivered a virtual keynote address at the Mobile World Congress trade exhibition in Barcelona, Spain.
He stated that SpaceX’s satellite internet network Starlink has just reached around 70,000 active customers in approximately 12 countries and that the company intends to expand this user base to approximately 500,000 people in the next 12 months, according to the company.
A $99 subscription fee for the service will be charged worldwide, with certain local taxes added on top of that.
This indicates that the satellite broadband service in India will cost around Rs 7,000 per month, and it is projected to be operational in India by 2022 at that time.
SpaceX aspires to provide internet access to as much as 5 per cent of the world’s population, which is now inaccessible via conventional fibre and wireless networks.
According to Bloomberg, the satellite network is presently capable of transmitting around 30 terabits of data per second, and Musk has stated that he is aiming for a user latency — or network reaction time — of less than 20 milliseconds.
In the coming year, the business plans to launch a new generation of Starlink satellites that will be equipped with inter-satellite laser links to aid in the coverage of polar regions.
Starlink began sending out pre-reservation invitations in India in February 2021 for services that will begin in 2022, according to the company’s website. Your place in line for the purchase of the Starlink equipment would be secured with a $99 deposit charge.
“By submitting your Deposit Payment, you have established precedence within your region for purchasing the Starlink Kit when it becomes available,” according to Starlink’s official website.
This deposit cost is fully refundable, and payments may be made in any method, including Apple Pay, at the time of purchase.
