Everyone uses Google Maps to look for addresses and get directions. Most of us are unaware that the app is linked to authorities all around the globe in order to hide critical or confidential facilities from sight. Many such places and regions are visible on Google Maps, as shown by research and many theories.

The Blood Lake
When it was initially discovered in 2007, west of Sadr city in Iraq, Blood Lake quickly rose to prominence in the international media. One of the biggest lakes in the region, it now resembles the site of a murder.
It’s strange, but the lake’s redness seems to vary in intensity throughout the day, based on when you check it out on Google Maps. In any case, the color will be red, albeit it may be very light or very dark. Several potential explanations have been proposed, including bacterial algae and the practice of local supermarkets pouring blood from slaughtered animals into the lake. The reddish hue of the lake, according to researchers, is the consequence of pollution from human waste and sewage.
Strange Chinese Symbols
Using Google Maps, a group of curious onlookers discovered a wide variety of strange shapes and patterns carved into the ground in China’s Gobi desert. Some have hypothesized that the isolated sets of stripes and patterns might represent Chinese missile testing grounds.
It’s easy to see parallels between the engraved symbols and the inscriptions used by past civilizations as a means of communication and understanding. These odd sculptures span a distance of around 0.6 kilometers over the desert.
But specialists think these are calibrating patterns employed by Chinese espionage spacecraft to help them get their bearings in orbit and adjust their camera focus. Reflective in appearance, they are really trenches cut into the earth and painted over.
Courtyard of the Orange Tree
Cordoba has many lovely spots, but the Courtyard of the Orange Tree at Viana Castle is one of the best. It gets its name from the six-century-old orange trees that encircle the central fountain. The Courtyard’s tranquil fountain, fine craftsmanship, and carefully arranged plant life have made it a popular tourist destination.
Tradition has it that the Courtyard was first established in the eighth century when it was already one of the world’s most populous towns.
The beautiful and popular Courtyard, unfortunately, has been removed from Google Maps. There have been various conjectures as to the possible reasons for hiding the site, but no firm conclusions have been obtained.
Scientology Cathedral
Two mysterious diamond-shaped marks are located in the middle of loops and a few buildings in the middle of the New Mexico desert. They can go to the local airport by a path that is a little out of the ordinary. This facility has been under wraps since its construction in the 1980s.
Google Maps actually named it for us, and it’s called Trementina Base. Church of Spiritual Technology, a group having ties to Scientology, is the owner of the strange building. The church claims that the building was constructed to house the books, movies, and tapes of the forefather of the parent group (the Church of Scientology).
As an added bonus, the cathedral’s foundation is supported by a network of vaults that store essentials for human survival. Where the tombs are buried, believers of the cult have engraved symbols into the earth as guides for when mankind is wiped out in the far future.
