New Games That Players Should Try in 2023

2022 was a brilliant year for games, and even this late into the year, there are some yet to be released. In the run-up to Christmas day, there is a whole heap of games that will hit the stores.

But before then, what should you be playing? From PC to Switches, here are a couple of the best games for you to play right now.

Bear and Breakfast

Who doesn’t want to be a bear in the woods? Well, in Bear and Breakfast, you start in an abandoned forest and happen to find some buildings that look worse for wear. Of course, as a bear, your first thought is to commandere the buildings and turn them into a bed and breakfast for humans!

It’s a twist on the traditional SIM-type game because it also incorporates some adventure. A story will begin to unfold as you play, and you will be heavily reminded of games like Stardew Valley and Theme Hospital. This is the perfect game for cozy gaming sessions where you don’t want the stress of defeating mobs.

Playable on the Switch and PC.

Stray

Another one of the animal-themed games that were highly anticipated is STRAY. It is one of the most streamed games, and there are loads of YouTube tutorials and playthroughs to check out if you haven’t seen the game in action already. You’ll run into lots of other cats, go on adventures and solve some puzzles. What makes it so great is that there are a couple of moments of danger – but nothing too stressful, which means kids can enjoy this game too.

But keep in mind your cat can die – but it respawns quickly, so there’s that.

The enjoyment of the game hinges simply on the fact that you are a cat, and your main job is to help some androids escape their fate.

Playable on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Fishin Frenzy

This game offers a lot for wanna-be fishers who wouldn’t mind winning some money as they play. It plays like a traditional slot in most senses; for example, you will be hoping to match three scatter symbols and, of course, win a prize.

Special features include the angler and fisherman are wilds, and each of the seven fish symbols has a different prize value attached.

Fishin Frenzy is playable on Virgin Games and any compatible devices.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

It looks and plays like the retro game and has all of the charms of the original TMNT games too. Foot Clan soldiers will come at you from all angles, using things like shopping bags as weapons. It is a chaotic game with a lot going on, but that is part of what makes it enjoyable to play.

While it’s not as long in terms of playable hours as the other games mentioned, there are seven characters that you can play, including Splinter, Casey Jones, and April O’Neil.

Even though it looks and feels retro and has all the nostalgia you want in a game, it still has that modern smoothness.

Playable on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Rogue Legacy 2

Every once in a while, a game is released that is designed to celebrate the differences in heroes. Every heir has a new flavor to bring to the game; you might have a Ranger that farts in order to jump or fighters who fling pizza.

With all of these added differences, it keeps the game interesting, and that is what ultimately makes it fun. Roguelites are a subgenre of roguelike games and are one of the most popularly created games. Roguelites offer a little more in the way of progression.

Rogue Legacy 2 hopes that players can find the fun in farting, pizza, and other odds skills to get them from a to b and defeat foes along the way. What makes RL2 super playable, though, is every time you play it, you will get a different experience.

Playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Strange Horticulture

As you might guess by the name, this game is about plants. In fact, you are the seller of the plants – but they are not what they seem. No plant that you sell is ordinary – they all offer the buyers something exciting. Some plants will help people poison their enemies, while others will become braver. The game is beautiful to look at, and that is a big part of its charm.

As you play, you will be privy to some interesting information about the world outside of the shop. It requires you to pay attention to everything around you – in the best way.

Playable on PC.

Elden Ring

If you like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you are going to love the Elden Ring. Just like Zelda, the landscape is one of its biggest selling points because is there anything more fun than open-world? One of the most enjoyable things about open-world games is that you never quite know where you will run into foes – but they are almost always a challenge.

Keep in mind you can get lost, though, and it might take you quite some time to get back on track – but that is the beauty of the game.

Playable on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.

Other games tipped to take the top spot for the last few weeks of 2022 are World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and Pokemon Violet and Scarlet.
